Lawrence Calcano
Chief Executive Officer of i1 Biometrics Inc.
Mr. Calcano has spent a significant portion of his career working with growth Technology oriented companies from multiple vantage points, including as Chief Executive Officer, member of the Board of Directors, investor and outside financial advisor. Prior to i1 Biometrics, Lawrence Calcano worked at Bite Tech, Inc., a maker of athletic protective and performance oriented oral appliances, as Chairman and CEO for two and a half years. Preceding his position at Bite Tech, Calcano was at Goldman Sachs for almost seventeen years, where he became a Partner in the Investment Banking Division and served as Co-Head or COO of the firm’s Technology Banking Group (“the Tech Group”) from 1997 to 2006, and Head of the firm’s East Coast Technology Group beginning in 1993. Calcano has deep domain knowledge and deal experience working with startup and growth companies in technology, the internet, e-commerce and sports media. He has served as an adviser to the CEOs of many of the most exciting growth companies over the years and has worked on over $40 billion transactions of all types, including public and private financings as well as mergers and acquisitions. In addition, Calcano was named to the Forbes Midas List of the most influential people in venture capital in 2001 (the inaugural year), 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Calcano has served on the Boards of Directors for several companies over the years including 800Flowers, Freemarkets, Capital Acquisition Corp, ECI, Pivot Point Software and Bite Tech. Calcano also currently serves on the board of the Mental Health Association of NY, which manages the National Suicide Prevention Hotline and the newly implemented NFL Lifeline. At the MHA he works closely with the leadership team including the Chairman and President on issues related to Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in the sports and military domains, as well as on other important initiatives.
Calcano was an analyst at Morgan Stanley for three years after graduating from Holy Cross College in 1985. He attended the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth in 1988 and graduated as a Tuck Scholar in 1990. He currently resides in Greenwich, CT with his wife and three children.
Chris Genau
Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Genau is a recognized technical leader with 21 years experience in the medical device, consumer, and automotive industries. Mr. Genau has expertise in multi-component product architectures, medical and consumer device development, implantable and surgical systems, human factors, and is adept at working with US and international standards and specifications. Prior to his work at i1 Biometrics, Mr. Genau was the Vice President of Engineering for MDI Partners where he focused on reviewing new technology opportunities and building teams to support capital investment. Previously, Mr. Genau played a lead role at NeuroVista Corporation where his team developed key components of an active implantable system for the management and treatment of Epilepsy. Prior to NeuroVista, he held a principal engineering position at CoAptus Medical where he co-developed a minimally invasive closure device for the treatment of a structural cardiac defect. Prior to CoAptus, Mr. Genau led a multi-disciplined team at Northstar Neuroscience, a Seattle-based medical device company seeking to improve neurological recovery following stroke via targeted electrical stimulation of the brain. Before joining the world of venture-backed medical startup companies, Mr. Genau worked in a consulting role for NEO Technologies where he focused solely on new product development for a large variety of clientele. Notable work during this time includes design and development of medical diagnostic and monitoring devices, surgical tools, and multiple electronic consumer products.
Mr. Genau has a passion for building and leading teams. He strives to constantly balance business needs with elegant product solutions. Mr. Genau is an inventor on numerous medical device and consumer product patents. He received a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
David Snyder
Chief Science Officer
Mr. Snyder brings more than thirty-five years technical and scientific experience to the i1 Biometrics team. He began his career developing advanced semiconductor and laser technologies at Hughes Research Laboratories, and as consultant to the Amoco Research Center. He then transitioned to the medical device industry where he expanded his expertise to encompass medical device development, clinical trial design and management, statistical analysis, implantable systems, machine learning, digital and analog electronics, digital signal processing, and software design.
As Vice President of Advanced Technology and Senior Principal Scientist at NeuroVista, David managed a multi-site team that developed seizure advisory algorithms for patients with epilepsy. As Research Director for resuscitation products at Philips Medical Systems (formerly Heartstream), he led research and development efforts that have contributed to changes in the modern practice of resuscitation and defibrillation. Prior to Heartstream, David held management and engineering positions at Heart Technology, now part of Boston Scientific.
David has authored 20 medical and engineering publications, and is an inventor on 15 patents. He received a BS degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an MSEE degree from the University of Michigan.
Brian Ronald
Executive Vice President of Manufacturing
Mr. Ronald joined Bite Tech in April 2011 and transitioned at the advent of i1 Biometrics. Brian brings over 25 years of high tech electronic operations management experience in both captive and outsource manufacturing arenas. Brian has more than 20 years of exposure in global manufacturing and supply chain regions in Asia, South America, Mexico and Europe. Brian has directed numerous new product introductions into high volume manufacturing venues for companies such as GE Lighting, US Robotics/3Com/Palm, Efficient Networks/Siemens, and Agility Communications/JDSU to achieve on time product deliveries with Lean manufacturing techniques. For the 4 years prior to joining the i1 team, Brian directed his own consulting company focused on sustainable performance improvement by means of Human Performance Technology and Lean Thinking Principles.
Jesse Harper
Vice President, Sales
Mr. Harper joined i1 Biometrics as Vice President, Sales in August 2012. Jesse brings over 20 years of B2B and sport sales experience. Prior to joining i1 Biometrics, he held the position of Senior Director of B2B Sales for Polar Sports & Fitness Monitors, the world’s #1 sports performance monitoring company, from 2004 to 2012 and Product Consultant and Field Deployment roles from 1994 to 2004. In this capacity he was responsible for the sales and distribution of Polar products in the B2B channel to pro & collegiate sports teams, health clubs, educational institutions, corporate wellness, insurance and military segments. He also serves on the board of the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association. Jesse has an undergraduate degree in Nutritional Biochemistry and an MBA in International Business.
